Deposit Insurance Agency of Serbia hosts IADI’s ERC Subgroups’ Meetings

Deposit Insurance Agency of Serbia (DIA Serbia) hosted the meetings of two subgroups of the European Regional Committee of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) on 13 May 2016.

The Subgroup for the Relations between the EU Directive on Deposit Guarantee Schemes (DGSD) and the Core Principles for Effective Deposit Insurance Systems (CPs), and the Subgroup for State Aid Rules and DGS Interventions had round-table discussions, attended by the delegates from France, Hungary, Italy, Montenegro, Romania and Serbia. The discussions aimed at developing the research papers drafted by the Interbank Deposit Protection Fund of Italy.

The first meeting focused on a detailed comparative analysis of CPs (a compendium of principles for deposit insurers, released by the IADI and the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, and adopted by the World Bank and the IMF) and the DGSD in order to identify the analogies and gaps between the two documents.

The second subgroup studied the DGS interventions in EU and the conditions under which the European Commission interpreted the use of deposit insurance funds for assisting the failing financial institutions in compliance with the regulations governing the use of state aid.

IADI is an international professional association founded in 2002, which currently has over a hundred members (80 deposit insurers), associates and partners. The European Regional Committee was created to reflect the interests of the European IADI members and boost their professional exchange and interaction.
